Trinitians had a great weekend when they accounted for not only Bradby Shield Rugby, but also Bradby Golf at the Victoria Golf Resort (VGR) in Rajawella recently.
In a highly anticipated golf match, the Old Trinitians side, led by seasoned golfer Suren Waas, beat the Old Royalists, led by veteran banker Jehaan Ismail, with a score of 6.5 to 3.5.
Two games were the picks of the event where Derrick Ponnabalam and Saliya Jayaweera (both Old Royalists) beat Chandima De Singhe and Clifford Fernando (both Old Trinitians) 6/5.
In another keen tussle, James Eliyathambi and Sathies Balasubramanium (both Old Trinitians) beat Harsha Abeywickrama and Suren Madanayake (both Old Royalists) 6/5. Surain Premathileke and Nisal Hettiarachchi (both Old Trinitians) beat Andy Anderson and Saliya Jayaweera (both Old Royalists) by the same score line.
To increase participation among the old boys from both schools in Bradby Golf, the Victoria Bowl was played. The players with the best three cards on stableford points were selected. Royal walked away with the Victoria Bowl. Old Trinitian and former Australian Rugby Union (ARU) Chairman Dilip Kumar also participated in the event for the very first time.
This latest victory for Old Trinitians is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the old boys which consisted of some outstanding personalities. The Royal team, despite the defeat, can take solace in the fact that they pushed their opponents to the limit and will undoubtedly be eager to bounce back in the next 10th encounter in 2025.
The event was sponsored by NDB Bank.
