Winning three teams
Brilliant driving performance and exceptional teamwork by Team Brandix throughout the race led them to bag the top podium position at Sri Lanka’s first ever corporate karting challenge, the Wurth Endurance Karting Challenge 2019, held at Sri Lankan Karting Circuit’s (SLKC) international track last Saturday. The race was officiated by Ceylon Motor Sports Club.
The Brandix Essentials team comprising Namal Samarawickrama, Gihan Dias, Shehan Jayawardena, Shevan De Mel, Ruchira Abeygunawardane, Nirmal Rankothge, Shamil Ahamed and Dulari Wewagedara completed 229 laps within the prescribed three hours.
Teams Sysco Labs who finished 226 laps, was placed 1st runner up while Assetline Capital became the 2nd runner up completing 224 laps. Paradise Group David Pieris Motor Company Ltd. teamwas placed fourth and fifth respectively.
The fastest male driver of the race was Thinuka Thewamith of Paradise Group while second and third positions were won by Angelo Senaratne of Sysco Labs and Shevan De Mel of Brandix Essentials.
After a sharp fight Thilini Dinushika of Paradise Group won the fastest female driver title while Dulari Wewagedara of Brandix Essentials and Shiyanka de Zylva of Sysco Labs came in second and third. Thirteen teams with a maximum of eight members including a mandatory female driver from Sri Lankan corporate establishments, , took part in this 3 hour endurance invitational race, where drivers maneuvered their karts through the straights and turns continuously for three hours, putting team strategy and a heady mix of speed, stamina and skills to the test.
The teams final team rankings were Brandix Essentials, Sysco Labs, Assetline Capital, Paradise Group, David Pieris Motor Company Ltd, Sasianet, Wurth Lanka, Audi-Drive I, H. W. Associates (Motormag), National Development Bank, Assetline Insurance Brokers, Nations Trust Bank and Luxury Brands. Commenting on the successful event, Naalaka Madugalle, Managing Director, David Pieris Racing and Leisure Ltd., (Private) Limited, who own and manage SLKC, said “the caliber of driving and the team work displayed by the corporate teams was impressive .Most importantly everyone had great fun and it was an excellent platform for bonding and friendly rivalry. It a challenging, new and different activity for companies to undertake.”
Madugalle added that the next corporate karting event is scheduled to be held in June and invited all corporates to sign up for an unforgettable experience taking on the competition at Sri Lanka’s only international karting track.
SLKC is open for rental operations providing the opportunity for karting enthusiasts to experience a professional world class motorsports facility for the first time in Sri Lanka. A fleet of several types of rental karts are available for different skill levels for anyone who wants to try out the sport or simply have a fun filled, thrilling experience. SLKC provides safety gear such as helmets & gloves ensuring safety of the drivers. Karting is known as the entry point for future motorsport champions.
Bambino karts and a separate track for children between the ages of 4-7 is available to drive under skilled supervision, while kids aged 8-12 years can enjoy the main track in Cadet Karts. Youngsters aged 13 and above can enjoy karting and racing on main track with adults.
Other leisure activities such as air rifle shooting range, a swimming pool (including kiddie’s pool) and a multi cuisine fusion restaurant complement the karting experience.
