Former Zimbabwe skipper Brendan Taylor, who represented the Kandy Tuskers in the initial Lanka Premier League (LPL), is likely to miss out on the second edition of the tournament which is scheduled to commence in late July. This is due to his commitment with the national team tour of Ireland during the same period.

Taylor has played in 33 Test matches, 199 ODI and 44 T20 encounters for the South African nation and also led the batting outfit for the Kandy Tuskers during the initial event in December 2020 in Hambantota. Taylor made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 2004 at Harare Sports Club ground.

The five-team event will take place only in Hambantota due to the pandemic situation in the country and controlling and monitoring will be on a better footing organising the event at one venue by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), which held an incident-free first edition event.

Niroshan Dickwella will be the icon player for the upcountry outfit in 2021.
