Brickbats for Sri Lanka Rugby ex-President Illyas

In response to yesterday’s article titled “Asia Rugby exposed in damning World Rugby audit report” (https://www.ft.lk/sports/Asia-Rugby-exposed-in-damning-World-Rugby-audit-report/23-767702) and the contents therein, a spokesman for the previous administrations said it was Sri Lanka Rugby former President Rizly Ilyas who sabotaged the deal with Dialog Axiata PLC and due to that SLR lost over Rs. 200 million over the last 4 years. Due to this reason 4 SLR council members resigned.

He also claimed that it was Illyas who dragged rugby to the gutter.

It was pointed out 99% of the Asia Rugby Budget was allocated before SLR received any funds and the so called audit report was done by a website called 24/7 with a host of inaccurate and false information.
