Burnout Squad UAE organise 3x3 basketball tournament for second year

Team Public Enemy emerged champions in the second edition of the 3x3 basketball tournament organised by Team Burnout Squad in UAE on 20 August at the Shabab Al Ahli indoor basketball complex, Dubai.

Team Burnout Squad UAE organised the inaugural 3x3 basketball tournament in 2022 exclusively for the Sri Lankans living in Dubai to showcase the Lankan talents in UAE.

Thirteen teams and over 50 players took part in this tournament.

The matches were played in two groups in a round-robin format with the top two qualifying for the semifinals.

The champions were led by Naveen Bandara comprised Anjelo Jayamanne, Nimesh Kulatunga and Farha Booso.

Team Burnout was the runner-up, and Team Legends secured third place by defeating the defending champions Team Dubai Blues.

The tournament was sponsored by Winfield Silver Circle LLC (A to Z marketing solution company) and Thambapanni Restaurant. The tournament was also supported by Siraj Finance PJSC as a strategic partner with other sponsors Arabian Gig Tourism LLC, Synergy Express FZE, Corvus Aviation, and Universal Freight Solutions LLC.

The tournament organisers (Burnout Squad UAE) provided playing jerseys to all the teams. The jerseys were designed to promote the coconut which was one of the main export incomes of Sri Lanka, and also the coconut leaves to remind the arena that Sri Lanka has the best coconuts in the world. This jersey concept shall be the same for the next three years in order to promote coconut tree products.

The organisers are planning to open the tournament to other nationalities at the next event for better awareness of Sri Lankan coconut tree products.

The championship trophy was a challenge trophy that was sponsored by Winfield Silver Circle LLC which is valued at around AED 25,000/- (Rs. 2.25 million).

The trophy was custom-designed exclusively for the tournament with an embossed 3D mark of BURNOUT 3X3. Describing the trophy top to bottom, the golden ball hitting a golden hoop, the ball and the hoop are 18K gold plated fixed on a 1x1 ft granite marble box stone. As per the organisers, the trophy could be taken home by any team that wins the championship for five consecutive seasons.

Burnout Squad UAE (Burnout), is a functional training concept formed in 2019 by three athletes Amal Rameez, Amjad Afham and Imran Faleel under the patronage of Sri Lanka national basketball Captain from 1991-1993 Sugath Thevarapperuma.
