C. D. De Fonseka & Sons wins SLFPA 9th Annual Cricket Trophy

The Annual Softball Cricket Tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Food Processors Association (SLFPA) was held on 15 March at the Colombo Colts Cricket Club Ground.

37 teams comprising both men and women, playing together from 30 member companies, vied for the SLFPA Challenge Shield. The tournament was conducted on a league basis. It was helpful in creating a high degree of interaction, relationship, understanding, and fellowship among the employees of the participating member companies.

The participant company teams represented the following categories – Processed Food, Processed Beverages, Machinery and Packaging, International Food Certification, Food Ingredients, and Casual Dining.

The tournament is a key event in the calendars of all members of the processed food industry, bringing professionals from various organisations together in a spirit of fun and sportsmanship. This year, the tournament was held taking into account the participating teams’ families as well.

Team C. D. De Fonseka & Sons was the winner and Team CBL Foods International Ltd. was the runners up. Varun Beverages Sri Lanka emerged the Plate winner. The Man of the Match award was presented to A.A. Mujitha Udara of C. D. De Fonseka & Sons and the Woman of the Match award was won by M.D. Niroshangani of CBL Foods International Ltd.

Participants showed immense interest in participating and grabbing gifts in parallel events such as the karaoke competition, dancing competition, and best marquee competition. The Best Male Singer was Dayal Fernando and the Best Female Singer was Nipuni Gallage of SGS Lanka Ltd. Madawa Dissanayake from Perfetti Van Melle Lanka Ltd. emerged the Male Winner and Madushika Madumali from CBL Convenience Foods Lanka emerged the Female Winner of the intense dancing competition. Nuwan Kumara from Cargills Convenient Foods Ltd. and Madushani from Cargills Convenient Foods Lanka secured the runner-up positions. The Best Tent was awarded to Control Union Inspections Ltd.
