CASA organises 22nd annual six-a-side Softball Cricket Tournament

CASA, the voice of the shipping industry, organised the 22nd CASA annual six-a-side Softball Cricket Tournament on 15 February at the NCC grounds.

This was the most awaited sporting event of the year for all CASA members and the popularity of the tournament has grown over the years not only among the members but also with other stakeholders due to the high standards maintained by the organizers in presenting the tournament.

Gents - Player of the Tournament



There were 51 Gents teams and 18 Ladies teams enrolled for this year’s tournament and a large number of spectators attended the event to support the participating teams.  

Salota International Ltd. emerged as the winners in the Gents tournament and  Evergreen Shipping Lanka Ltd. won the Ladies tournament. Sri Lanka Ports Authority won the mini tournament. Gayashan Weerasekara of Hapag- Lloyd Lanka Ltd. and Hiruni Wasana of Ceyline Shipping Ltd. emerged as the Best Players of the tournament. 

Sri Lanka Ports Authority Chairman General Daya Ratnayake attended the occasion as the Chief Guest. Sri Lanka Ports Authority Additional Managing Director Upali De Zoysa, Harbour Master Capt. Nirmal Silva, Hambantota International Ports Group CEO Ray Ren, Colombo International Container Terminal CEO Jack Huang, South Asia Gateway Terminal CEO Romesh David, South Asia Gateway Terminals Ltd. Chief Commercial Officer Ted Muttiah, Colombo Dock Yard PLC Head of Marketing Dharshana Chandrasekera, Colombo International Container Terminals Group Chief Business Development Officer and Hambantota International Ports Chief Operating Officer Tissa Wickremasinghe, Colombo International Container Terminals Ltd. General Manager Commercial and Marketing Catriona Jayasundera, Salota International Ltd. Managing Director Kolitha Wickeramasinghe, Fairfirst Insurance Ltd. Acting National Head Roshan Jayalath and Fairfirst Insurance Ltd. Regional Head Mahesh Silva, CASA Chairman Iqram Cuttilan, CASA Treasurer Shano Sabar, Past CASA Chairmen Capt. A.V. Rajendra and Capt. Ajith Peiris and Sea Consortium Lanka Ltd. Managing Director Arjuna Hettiarachchi were present at the awards ceremony.  

This tournament was initiated many years ago, with the aim of building camaraderie amongst employees of the shipping community, which has undoubtedly contributed to building a better working relationship amongst the shipping agents.

Apart from CASA members, every year there’s active participation of Sri Lanka Ports Authority, South Asia Gateway Terminals Ltd., Colombo International Container Terminals Ltd., Sri Lanka Customs, Colombo Dockyard Plc and Hambantota International Ports Group, enhancing stakeholder participation and bonding. 

Fairfirst Insurance Ltd., Salota International Ltd., South Asia Gateway Terminals Ltd., Hambantota International Ports Group, Colombo International Container Terminals Ltd., Colombo Logistics World and Colombo Dock Yard Plc supported the CASA Sixes 2020 together with CASA members, well-wishers and other stakeholders.

The tournament was organised and presented by the Sports Committee and the Membership Activities Committee of CASA.
