The hallowed P Sara Oval will be the venue for the top of the table clash between CCC and NCC for the Premier Super Eight plum commencing today.

Both clubs faltered in their attempt to draw ahead, failing to win their matches played last week. Instead, they conceded first innings points to Saracens SC and BRC respectively.

Despite the setback the two clubs held onto their one-two positions at the top of the table and the result will decide which way the title is going. CCC still enjoys a near 17-point lead over NCC and will want to put the championship beyond reach of any team by taking maximum points. A win for defending champs CCC will give them a firm grip to retain the title for another year, and a win for NCC will certainly throw the tournament wide open.

CCC were certainly given a fright by Saracen SC who not only took first innings points off them but very nearly came within pulling off an outright win falling short by 28 runs with four wickets in hand.

NCC who took on wooden-spoonists BRC also conceded first innings points and were somewhat unlucky not to record an outright win when time ran out for them with BRC down to their last pair.

Saracens SC and BRC will front up at Katunayake today in what could turn out to be a close contest. Saracens after their fine showing against CCC will fancy their chances of winning the contest, but no one expected BRC to surprise NCC.

Former champions Chilaw Marians put themselves in contention by moving to third place in the table with an outright win over Sri Lanka Army. They take on Colts at the SSC. Colts rather shockingly lost outright to Ragama CC last weekend.

Ragama CC will be looking to carry forward their form when they meet Army at the CCC grounds. (ST)
