The incessant rain has forced MCA to indefinitely postpone, the fourth CDB-MCA Open “Sixes” 2022, Tier “B” matting matches, which was scheduled to be played this weekend at four venues.

Its Tier “A” turf matches, were played last Tuesday, 30 August at the MCA and Bloomfield Grounds with the participation of 13 teams.

The tournament under glorious sunshine went smoothly up to the Semi-Finals at both venues.

At Bloomfield, where six teams played, completed by 4:30 pm and the finalist was found; and sponsor, Citizens Development Business (CDB) beat Sampath Bank “A” team in the bottom half semi-final, and came over to MCA grounds to play in the final.

By then, at MCA where seven teams played and had more matches, the top half semi-final was played between Fair first Insurance and Hayleys Group “B” team, and while Hayleys was batting, the heavens opened, the light faded, and the Umpires suspended play.

As the rain persisted and the light did not improve, the match was abandoned, and the “bowl-out” system, was enforced to find the winner.

The bowl-out was conducted at the MCA Indoor Complex, and it did not produce a result (one-all). Then the coin toss took place, and Hayley’s Captain called correctly and qualified for the final with CDB.

The MCA Tournament Committee will now decide whether to play the final, along with the Tier “B” matches or to, declare CDB and Hayleys “B” as joint winners.
