CDB Trophy receives historic number of entries

The second MCA Open Six-A-Side Cricket Tournament 2018, sponsored by Citizens Development Business Finance Plc, for the CDB Trophy, has attracted an unprecedented 69 entries. 

The tournament will be conducted in two segments - Tier ‘A’ (on turf) and Tier ‘B’ (on matting). Twenty-one teams will play in Tier ‘A’ and 48 teams will play in Tier ‘B’. The tournaments will take place on 7, 8 and 9 September. On day one the 21 Tier ‘A’ teams, pooled into nine groups, will be in action at the MCA and Colts grounds from 8.30 a.m. onwards. On day two the 48 Tier ‘B’ teams, pooled into 16 groups, will see action at MCA, Wesley College, St. Joseph’s College and the Army Mattegoda grounds from 8.30 a.m. onwards. On day three the Tier ‘A’ quarterfinals will be conducted at the Colts grounds. The finalists will travel to MCA. Tier ‘B’ pre-quarterfinals will be conducted at MCA and at the St. Joseph’s College grounds. The finalist from Darley Road will travel to MCA for the final. CDB has offered five special awards for each category, namely Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Hitter of the Most Sixes in the Tournament, Man of the Final and Man of the Tournament. At the 2017 Sixes held on 5, 6 and 7 August, MAS Silueta won the Tier ‘A’ segment, beating MAS Unichela. Citizens Development Business won the Tier ‘B’ segment, beating Maliban Biscuits.  All this information was revealed to the media at the sponsorship handover ceremony which took place on Wednesday, 29 August at 6.30 p.m. at the MCA fine dining restaurant ‘The Pitch’. Present at the ceremony were CDB Director/Chief Credit Officer Sasindra Munasinghe; CDB Innovation and Business Intelligence Senior Deputy Manager Hasitha Dassanayake and CDB Marketing Deputy General Manager Dharshana Jayasinghe, MCA President Roshan Iddamalgoda, MCA Sponsorship Committee VP/Chairman Rohana Dissanayake, MCA General Secretary Nalin Wickremasinghe and MCA Tournament Committee Chairman Sujeewa de Silva.
