CDB beats Seylan to win MCA T+10 Cricket Championship

A swashbuckling half century by Shevon Daniel (65 runs in 27 balls, inclusive of 6 sixes and 4 fours) and a hatrick by Muditha Lakshan (2 overs, 3 runs and 4 wickets), propelled Citizens Development Business Finance (CDB) to an overwhelming 74 runs win over Seylan Bank, in the Final of the Inaugural Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) T+10 Cricket Tournament 2024, concluded on Sunday at the MCA Grounds.

The historic tournament, the first ever held on the country was sponsored by Assetline Insurance Brokers Ltd., a subsidiary of David Pieris Group of Companies, together with David Pieris Leisure “Pearl Bay” Bandaragama. 

The Final : CDB Finance, sent into bat, riding on a quick fire opening stand of 85 runs in 38 balls, by Shevon Daniel (65) and Dilan Jayalath (25) finished their 10 overs with a formidable 127 for 4.

Seylan Bank in reply, meekly surrendered with a paltry 53 for 9 in 10 overs, having no answer to Muditha Lakshan and Tharindu Rathnayake (3 for 13). 

Prior to the final, in the morning, Semi Finals were played and following are the brief results. 

1st Semi Final : Seylan Bank beat HNB by 4 wickets; 

Seylan Bank – 69 for 06 in 10 overs and HNB – 47 all out in 8.3 overs.

2nd Semi Final : CDB Finance beat LOLC by 09 wickets; 

LOLC – 78 all out in 9.2 overs and CDB Finance – 83 for 1 in 6.2 overs.

Special Awards (based on performances up to the final)

Best Bowler – Muditha Lakshan from CDB Finance (6 matches, 53 runs, 16 wickets)

Best Batsman – Shevon Daniel from CDB Finance (6 matches, 183 runs, inclusive of 2 half centuries)

Man of the Series: Lasindu Nimsara from Seylan Bank (6 matches, 151 runs, 6 wickets and 6 catches) 

Man of the Final, picked by MCA appointed Match Referee, Chandana Mahesh Wickramasinghe – Muditha Lakshan from CDB Finance. 

On the invitation of MCA President Mahesh de Alwis, Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva graced the post tournament awards tournament and presented the main award.

The other awards were given away by the Chief Guest David Pieris Leisure Ltd. Director/CEO Gribson Hapukotuwa, Guest of Honour, Assetline Insurance Brokers Head of Operations Anuradha Hettige, MCA President Mahesh de Alwis and Chairman of the Tournament Committee Lakmal de Silva.
