CDB sponsors MCA open Cricket ‘Sixes’ 2019 for third consecutive year

Citizens Development Business Finance PLC, a leading player in the NBFI sector in Sri Lanka, is geared to power the MCA open Cricket ‘Sixes’ for the third consecutive year.

The tournament is organised by the Mercantile Cricket Association every year and has been a beloved cricketing fiesta in the Island for over 30 years. Over 50 teams will be participating in both Tier A and Tier B segments. 

The Tier A matches will be held at the MCA and Colts Cricket Grounds with nine teams playing at each location, while the Tier B segment will have 12 teams playing at the MCA, DS Senanayake, Wesley and Mattegoda Grounds.  The tournament will commence on 30 August.

The Finals will be the MCA Grounds on 1 September followed by the post-tournament awards presentation ceremony. Trophies will be presented to teams and individuals in both Tier A and Tier B segments including the Championship and Runner Up trophies.  In addition, five special awards will be presented for each Tier in the categories of Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Most Number of Sixes, Man of the Match and Man of the Tournament.

CDB Director and Deputy CEO/CFO Damith Tennakoon was the Chief Guest and CDB Director Sales and Business Development Sasindra Munasinghe was the Guest of Honour at the official sponsorship handing over ceremony and media conference held on Thursday 22 August at the MCA. 

MCA President Roshan Iddamalgoda commended CDB for its constant quest to uplift young talent in the sporting arena: “This collaboration between CDB and MCA, now in its third year, has brought together exceptional groups of individuals for the tournament. The tournament has produced a large number of young sportsmen for the nation and has been able to build great team spirit, fellowship, and sportsmanship.” 

He added that this sponsorship reiterated CDB’s commitment to develop and empower young talent to their highest potential.

Speaking to media, CDB Deputy General Manager Dharshana Jayasinghe said: “CDB believes in developing young talent, we see this tournament as a great platform for young individuals to showcase their talents. Cricket is a sport that is loved and followed passionately in Sri Lanka, platforms such as these have nurtured young cricketers who have then gone on to be recognised players in the international cricketing arena. CDB is excited about 2019 and we are looking forward to a successful tournament this year.” Also present at the media conference were MCA Vice President and Sponsorship Committee Chairman Nalin Wickramasinghe, General Secretary Mahesh De Alwis and Tournament Committee Chairman Sujeewa De Silva.
