CEAT’s big guns fire at Gunners Supercross, hitting 10 podium finishes

The CEAT Racing Team fired on all cylinders at the Gunners Supercross of the Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment, securing 10 podium finishes, with three members of the team – Jacques Gunewardena, Upulwan Serasinghe and Malika Kuruwitaarachchi winning all of their respective races.

Jacques Gunewardena was adjudged the Champion Rider at Gunners Supercross after winning both races in the MX 250cc event, while Upulwan Serasinghe took the chequered flag in the Ford Laser 1300cc and Ford Laser 1500cc races. Not to be outdone, CEAT Racing’s Malika Kuruwitaarachchi won the Subaru Legacy event. Ushan Perera, Devin Serasinghe and Evon Biyagee Gurusinghe gave the team five more podium finishes in the two SLGT Super Car races, the Ford Laser 1300cc race and in two motorcycle races.

Over the past five weeks alone, the CEAT Racing Team has racked up two car team championships and a bike team championship, while for their individual performances, team members Jacques Gunewardena has been adjudged champion rider twice and Ushan Perera has been declared champion driver once.

The 2019 CEAT Racing Team comprises of drivers Upulwan Serasinghe, Ushan Perera, Malika Kuruwitaarachchi, Devin Serasinghe, Chamod Perera, Col. Duminda Jayasinghe, Col. Indu Samarakone and Chamod Samarakone and riders Evon Biyagee Gurusinghe and Jacques Gunawardena.

CEAT is also the title sponsor of the CEAT SLADA 2019 Championship, which will be decided on five races conducted by SLADA in the course of the year. The races are the Gajaba Super Cross, Gunners Super Cross, Sigiriya Rally Cross, Katukurunda Motor Cross and Fox Hill Super Cross. The Fox Hill meet is managed by the Ministry of Sports with the participation of all motor racing clubs.

Besides its title sponsorship of the sport’s premier annual championship for the 10th year, Sri Lanka’s highest-selling tyre brand CEAT is supporting, for the next three years, the Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS) sanctioned ‘One-Make’ series of tarmac races at which all competing drivers use CEAT tyres.
