CH runs riot in second half at Welisara

CH and FC commenced their Super Round Plate segment with a fine second half burst to register an easy 59 points (9 tries, 7 conversions) to 16 points (2 tries, 2 penalties) win over last placed Navy Sports Club at Welisara yesterday.

At half time, visitors CH led 12/11.

CH and FC put up a superb second half rally crossing the weaker Sailors defence 7 times where the home lads could reply only with a solitary try.

After a pathetic first 25 minutes of the game where CH looked mere passengers to Welisara all of a sudden woke up and played a superb brand of running rugby. Skipper, Janidu Dilshan led from the front with some ghosting moves which foxed the entire Navy defence.

Sailors looked all over and lethargic in their approach after some good play in the initial half. They played well in the initial half but ran out of steam to pace out the entire 80 minutes and could not spoil any of the 7 scoring moves by the visitors. Their defence was all over and will find it tough in the remainder of the three games in the plate segment and their survival in top 8 too fads away.

Nirosh Perera, Davinda Ratnayake, Janidu Dilshan and Pasindu Bandara played their hearts out for the CH outfit who scored their second half a century plus score against the helpless Sailors. For Sailors it was Thilina Weerasinghe, Koojana Kulatunge and Shabith Musheen played well.

CH scored their tries through Janidu Dilshan (2), Pasindu Bandara (2), Thanuja Dilshan (2), Kavindu Anjula, Charith Silva, Dinesh de Silva and Janith Chandimal converted 6 of them while Kavindu Yasas converted one.

For Sailors their tries were scored by Pradeep Ranaweera and Dimuth Perera while Thilina Weerasinghe put over 2 penalties.

Referee of the game was Charani Liyanage who handled well.

CH lead the Plate segment with 27 points from their 9 encounters while Sailors are searching for their first win at bottom of the table with only 5 points out of their 9 games.
