CHA Annual 9-a-side Hockey Tournament

The Colombo Hockey Association (CHA) successfully completed the 05th edition of the Annual 09-a-side Hockey Tournament on 26 February 2023 at the Torrington Astro Turf, Colombo 7.

The tournament was conducted in 03 divisions for the men and in a single division for the women.

BRC won the “A” division, the Old Zahirians won the “B” division and Old Senanayakians won the “C” division; Colombo Malays won the Womens tournament.

This was the second title for BRC; In January 2023 they won the CHA Knock-out tournament.

“A” division /Men

Semi Finals- BRC beat Gymkana Club 1/Nil and Old Sananayakians “A” beat CHandFC “A” on penalties 3/2.

Plate Final- CHandFC “A” beat Gymkana Club 3/1.

Final- BRC beat Old Senanayakians “A” on penalties 3/1 (Full time 1/all)

Special Awards: Best Player- Gehan Madanayake from Old Senanayakians and

Best Gold Keeper- Ishra Kulatunga from BRC.

“B” division / Men

Semi Finals- Old Zahirians beat Old Weslyites 1/Nil, and Royal College “B” beat KDU on penalties, 4/3.

“Plate” Final- Old Wesleyites beat KDU, 1-Nil.

Final- Old Zahirians beat Royal College “B”, 2/Nil

Special Awards: Best Player- Mohamed Rifath and Best Goal Keeper - MWM Mafaz (Both from Old Zahirians)

“C” division /Men

Semi Finals- Colombo Colts beat Old Joes on penalties, 3/2 ; and Old Senanayakians “B” beat CRandFC on penalties, 3/1.

“Plate” Final- CRandFC beat Old Joes, 2/Nil

Final- Old Senanayakians “B” beat Colombo Colts, 2/1.

Special Awards: Best Player- Chaminda Sumanaratne and Best Goal Keeper -Oshada Weerasinghe (both from Old Senanayakians “B”)

Women

Semi Finals- Colombo Malays beat CRandFC on penalties, 2/1 and Combined Ladies beat Colombo Colts on penalties, 2/1.

“Plate” Final- Colombo Colts beat CRandFC on penalties.

Final- Colombo Malays beat Combined Ladies, 1/Nil.

Special Awards: Best Player- MHA Udayangani and Best Goal Keeper - Thasuni Malwanna (both from Colombo Malays)
