The Colombo Masters Cricket Association (CMCA) beat the Old Thomians (OTs) by seven wickets at the inaugural veterans cricket encounter played at S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia.
CMCA won the toss and put the OT’s in to bat. Thomian openers Vajira Wijegoonewardena (40) and Ramesh Wannakuwatte (16) put on a 50-run partnership. However, thereafter wickets fell at regular intervals and they were 95 for 6. At this stage Janesh Rathnadasa (30) and Amitha Abeynaike (32) came together and put on a 60-run partnership. Ajith Ekanayake for CMCA produced a superb bowling performance of five wickets for 20 runs. The OT’s ended their innings at 169 for 9 wickets in 30 overs.
CMCA openers Damian Tissarachchi (21) and Nalliah Deverajan (16) put on a 49-run partnership. After both openers were back in the pavilion, CMCA skipper Dharsha Abeywardena (59) and Lasantha Perera (52) put on a 111-run partnership and took the game away from the Old Thomians. The only successful bowler for the Thomians was Anura Bulankulame, who captured figures of 2 for 42.
