The historic Racecourse Ground played host to an electrifying clash between CR & FC and CH & FC, with the Red Shirts emerging triumphant in a fiercely contested battle, clinching a 27/22 victory in the end.

At the short breather, CR led 19/10. The game was a show of high-octane rugby, with both teams demonstrating tactical brilliance and unyielding determination.

CR & FC took the lead early, thanks to a series of well-executed tries by Iranga Ariyapala, Adeesha Weeratunge, Venura Kodagoda, and Aaron Corera. Their attack was well-supported by the clinical kicking of Zubair Doray, who played as a fly-half, who successfully converted two tries and added a crucial penalty to the scoreboard.

Meanwhile CH & FC was far from subdued, staging a resilient comeback with tries from Udesh Madushanka, Janidu Dilshan, and Nirosh Perera. The experienced Janith Chandimal and Dinesh de Silva added two conversions, with Chandimal also delivering a sublime drop goal to keep the host within striking distance.

The game reached its climax in the final moments, with CR & FC’s superior game management and disciplined defence proving the difference. Despite CH’s spirited effort, the Red Shirts were able to keep them away in the last five minutes of play with some rock solid defence. So it was the Red Shirts who prevailed in the end to keep their unbeaten tag alive alongside Kandy SC.

The game was refereed by Aruna Shantha.
