CR host Havies in Commander Matthysz Trophy encounter

The Inter Club League Super Round continues with an electrifying encounter as CR and FC take on Havelock SC on 2 March at Longden Place under lights at 6.30 p.m.

For Havelocks, however, the stakes couldn’t be higher, as they aim to keep their championship hopes alive. This encounter is played for Commander Matthysz Trophy which saw Havies taking early lead in the first round through a high scoring encounter. That win has given the Park Club a significant psychological edge, but CR will be determined to avenge their earlier defeat and end their campaign on a high. Despite their elimination from title contention, CR possesses the firepower to disrupt Havelocks’ momentum and influence the championship race.

Havelocks enter this contest knowing that a win is imperative. With only two teams, Havelocks and Kandy SC still in contention, every point matters. Any slip-up could hand Kandy a decisive advantage, making this fixture a must-win for the Pink Shirt lads.

Their forwards have been dominant throughout the season, and they will look to assert control early, while their backs aim to capitalise on scoring opportunities led by Abdulla Faiz. For CR and FC, pride and redemption will be their primary motivators. A disappointing campaign means they have nothing to lose, making them a dangerous opponent. Their attacking unit has shown glimpses of brilliance, and if they find rhythm, they could trouble the Havelocks defense. Playing at home under the lights could further boost their morale, setting the stage for an intense battle. They are led by former Joes player, Gemunu Chetiya. Their star number 8, Lasindu Karunathilake is expected to make a comeback after 2 months away from the game due to injury.
