Chamod Nuthunayake of CR on an attacking move

CR Fullback Mursheed Doray in action

In an exhilarating encounter under the lights at Longdon Place, CR & FC secured a commanding 38/15 victory over Navy SC in their latest rugby clash.

The hosts showed an impressive combination of power and precision, dominating both halves of the game with their relentless attacks and solid defensive effort.

At the short breather, Red Shirts led 21/3 and continued their unbeaten run with their second win at home in front of an appreciative crowd at Longdon Place.

The match began with a statement of intent from CR & FC as Viduna Amaneth crossed the try line early on, with Mursheed Doray adding the conversion. Omalka Gunaratne scored the Red Shirts a second try through a powerful move and made his mark with two sensational tries, both converted by Doray, to increase their lead. Adeesha Weeratunge added another try to the scoreboard, further asserting CR & FC’s dominance. Amaneth struck again in the second half, and Thilina Wijesinghe successfully converted. Thenuka Nanayakkara capped off the scoring spree with a brilliant try, leaving Navy SC struggling to keep up.

Navy SC fought valiantly to be in the game, but sadly, when an attack opportunity was given, it was not grabbed due to some basic errors. Thilina Weerasinghe, their ever-reliable kicker, opened their tally with a penalty. Denuwan Wickramarachchi added a try with a determined effort, and Weerasinghe followed it up with a try and conversion. However, Navy’s efforts fell short against CR & FC’s relentless onslaught.  The match was a testament to CR & FC’s tactical discipline and depth of talent with Head Coach Lewke testing out almost the entire bench of young blood.

Referee Sarath Madugalle handled the whistle. (SJ)
