Army SC, who beat Kandy SC and Navy in tandem, lost out to CR & FC 53/33 at Longdon Place over the weekend. Army SC was heavily rated to win this off but CR showed a lot of promise to make a comeback with a win after losing their Head Coach Nilfer Ibrahim.Reza Rafaideen scored first for the Red Shirts for an early lead. Army equalised through their nippy scrumhalf’s brave work which ended in a try for Dikkumbura. Chamod Fernando scored next for the Longdon Place club. The next powerful forwards break by rock solid Omalka Gunaratne ended in the second try for Reza Rafaideen. CR took the tally to 17/5. Kevin Dixon danced his way to score the next CR try. Medagedera and Danushka Thalawatte tries took the scores to 24/19, where it could have gone either way. Joel Perera’s try took CR clear to 31/19 lead.After the turnaround, tries scored by Omalka Gunaratne and Gemunu Cheethiya took CR well ahead at 46/19.
The Soldiers who never gave up scored one try a piece through Premanath and Chameera to cut the deficit to 13 points at 46/33. CR made it clear that the day is over for Army with a try by Kandy boy Tharinda Ratwatte to seal the game.
