Red shirts sent a strong message to defending champions, Kandy SC when they outclassed Army 55/8 in their opening interclub rugby encounter, which was played at Panagoda on Saturday.
Red shirts led by Sohiru Anthony led 36/3 at the short breather.
Thenuka Nanayakkara drew first blood for the Longdon place club with an early penalty which was followed by Lasindu Karunathilake try and conversion by Thenuka to take an early 10/0 lead. Soon afterwards, Chemod Mudunayake scored for CR. Adeesha Weerathunge and Thenuka Nanayakkara (2) tries took the Red shirts into a comfortable 36/3 at the short breather. All three tries were converted by Thenuka Nanayakkara who showed top class accuracy in his kicks.
After the turn around CR scored at will, and Army defence was all over the park.
Meanwhile Army scored their only try through their prop forward, Chameera Perera while the solitary penalty was put over by Chamod Fernando.
Referee was Raveen Alexander.
