CR and FC demolished Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club 37/17 in their penultimate league encounter which was concluded at the Race Course rugby ground last weekend.
At the short breather CR led 13/12.
CR celebrating their Centenary year displayed cohesive rugby this season returning to their old winning ways. CR drew first blood in the eighth minute of the game when Chamod Muthunayake went over for a try, but the lead was short lived as the Sailors hit back through a try by Adeesha Weeratunge. Thilina Weerasinghe added the extra two points to take the lead 7/5. CR scored their second try 12 minutes later once again through Chamod Muthunayake. Sailors took the lead through Nirosh Perera try. Chathura Seneviratne put CR ahead on the stroke of half time through a 35-meter penalty.
After the turn around CR scored through Ruchira Ekanayake to lead 18/12. CR who kept on attacking took only another 10 minutes to score their fourth and bonus point try through Lahiru Pavithra. Chathura Seneviratne added the extra two points to lead 25/12. Samith Dhananjaya touched down next for the Sailors to cut the deficit 25/17. CR scored two quick tries towards the last five minutes of the game through Lasindu Ishan and Thenuka Nanayakkara. Chathura Seneviratne was on target with one kick to take the scores to 37/17 and await Kandy in the last game.
Referee was Ishanka Abeykoon.
CR has collected 45 points from their nine games with the Kandy game being their last at Nittawela on 19 February.
