The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved instructing the Legal Draftsman to prepare a Bill for the formal approval and implementation of a comprehensive overhaul of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Constitution, based on recommendations from a specially appointed committee.

The move follows the Cabinet decision on 19 February to form a committee under the chairmanship of retired Supreme Court Judge K.T. Chithrasiri to draft a new Constitution for SLC.

The initiative was prompted by the findings and recommendations of a Cabinet sub-committee chaired by the Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Sabry, which was tasked with studying the issues faced by SLC.

The new Constitution has been meticulously drafted by Judge Chithrasiri’s committee to address these concerns and ensure the proper governance and management of the sport.

The new Constitution is expected to bring significant reforms to SLC, aiming for better administration, enhanced transparency, and greater accountability within the organisation.

The joint proposal, presented by Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Sabry, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera, Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara, and Public Security Minister Tiran Alles, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
