Cabinet directs legal draftsman to prepare draft Bill to amend Doping in Sports Act

The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved directing the legal draftsman to prepare a draft Bill to amend the Convention against Doping in Sports Act No. 33 of 2013 following recommendations by the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA). 

Sri Lanka Anti Doping Agency (SLADA) is an institution operating based on laws and regulations of World Anti Doping Agency (WADA). Thus, SLADA has to adhere to WADA laws and regulations to secure opportunity to represent international sports events by Sri Lankan athletes.

The WADA from time to time review the anti doping law of each country and recommend the possible amendments. The international provisions existed in the year 2013 had been considered when the Convention against Doping in Sports Act No. 33 of 2013 was formulated.

Against this backdrop, the WADA has recommended a number of amendments to be made after reviewing the anti doping law of Sri Lanka for the year 2024. 

The proposal to this effect submitted by the Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers
