Sri Lanka Women’s cricket captain Chamari Athapaththu made her first real mark in the ongoing Fairbreak Invitational Women’s T20 tournament in Kowloon scoring a power-packed 75* off 44 balls to steer Falcons Women to a nine-wicket win over Sapphires Women yesterday.
It was the Falcon Women’s second win of the tournament in four matches.
Athapaththu slammed six sixes and seven fours sharing an unbroken stand of 86 with captain Suzie Bates (42*) as Falcons Women chased down Sapphire Women’s total of 131.
Athapaththu took the Player of the Match award for her brilliant batting which followed her one wicket for 29 runs.
Athapaththu with seven wickets is the second highest wicket-taker in the tournament. She is her team’s leading run scorer with 139 runs (avg. 46.33) and a strike rate of 132.38.
