Charani Liyanage to referee Kandy SC vs. Navy encounter

The former St. Anthony’s College Dematagoda, Army SC and National rugby player, Charani Liyanage will make history by officiating as the referee at the Kandy vs. Navy SC encounter which will take place on 19 January at Nittawela Rugby Stadium.

Charani Liyanage, was the first female referee to officiate in the school’s A Division, Segment A game in 2024 and in 2025 she will create another history as the first female referee of a 72 year old Sri Lanka Referees Society to officiate a major club rugby tournament in Sri Lanka,

After leaving school, she joined Sri Lanka Army and played rugby from 2015 to 2024, was a member of the Sri Lanka women’s national team from 2016 to 2024. She also represented the country at the women’s team and took part in Commonwealth Games 2022.
