Hong Kong Rugby Sevens 2018
China booked the Women’s World series qualifications for 2018/2019 when they outclassed South African outfit in the final at the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens 2018 which kicked off at the Hong Kong Stadium in Causeway Bay yesterday. This was the 42nd year of the tournament which was initiated in 1976 where Sri Lanka too participated in that event.
The men’s segment of the World Series qualification encounter too took place at the same venue yesterday with the remaining games to be worked off today. Asian champions, Japan and Number 2 and hosts Hong Kong are in this event. Winner of this event will get qualification for the World series in 2018/2019.
In the main event all ranked teams got through day 1 other than Australia who were beaten by Spain 17/12 in a last minute try by the Spanish outfit. Three times champions at HK Sevens, Fiji handed off Samoa in the last game of the day while New Zealand too made their mark with an easy 36/5 win over Russia.
World series Men’s and World Series will take place today and tomorrow.
