The visiting Clems rugby team from New Castle, England, lost one of their rugby players last Sunday in Colombo.
They played their first match against CR & FC last Saturday (12 May) at Longdon Place and there were no serious injuries during the encounter. Later on, the social players had returned to their hotel in Colombo. The following day, two players from the visiting England team, aged 26 and 27, were rushed to a private hospital in Colombo. One of the players who had breathing difficulties passed away yesterday morning while the other player is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The visiting England team was to play two games on tour. The second game, previously scheduled to be played today against the Navy Sports Club, was cancelled. (SJ)
