Close Plate encounter expected

St Anthony’s College, Katugastota will be kicking off their second round Plate encounter against Dharmaraja College at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium today. Both teams have got ample talent with speedy three quarters under their belt. Kick-off is scheduled at 4 pm.

The Katugastota Antonians had a poor first round in the Cup segment losing four games, with their solitary win coming against last-placed Zahira in what was a close game. They are led by Fly Half Mohamed Makarim. 

Usually a safe player when kicking, he has had a poor season so far but will be looking to fire on all cylinders in the Plate encounters. Apart from Makarim, St. Anthony’s have some other great players in their line-up such as Isuru Ariyapala and Suahail Wazeem. They are coached by Ronny Ibrahim.

Meanwhile the Rajans are led by Hooker Manuka Hiripitiya, and they will be motivated by the prospect of ending in the top four in the Plate segment and reclaiming their Cup berth for 2020. They too have some outstanding players such as Sawmya Wijesiri and Kapukotuwa in their starting line up. They are coached by former 1986 Antonian scrum half Sanjaya Amunugama.

 The referee for the game will be Suranga Arunashantha. (SJ)
