Badureliya SC and Negombo CC, two clubs fighting hard to avoid relegation from Group A, were in a close tussle to gain valuable first innings points from their replay match of the SLC Major Club 3-Day Tournament, continued at the Galle Cricket Stadium yesterday.

At the end of the second day, Badureliya SC, replying to Negombo CC’s first innings of 263, were 240-6, needing a further 24 runs to gain the first innings lead going into the third and final day today.

Negombo CC, resuming from their overnight score of 244-9, were all out for 263, with Pramod Maduwantha going on to make a top score of 72* off 122 balls (5 fours). Spinners Chalana de Silva and Chanaka Ruwansiri shared six wickets between them.

Badureliya SC got off to a solid start with the openers posting 66. Contributions of 59 off 91 balls (7 fours) from Dunith Jayatunga, 46 from Gihan Koralage, and 66 off 110 balls (6 fours) from Ranesh Silva kept them on course to gain the vital first innings lead.

At 227-4, Badureliya SC looked in control of the game, but two quick wickets in the last hour of play by left-arm spinner Upul Indrasiri saw Negombo CC crawl back somewhat into the game.
