Yoshitha Rajapakse of Navy avoids a CH tackle
Avantha Lee of CH about to score a try
By Shamzeer Jaleel
A brave second half effort was not sufficient as CH and FC scored their first win this season when they edged out Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club by 28 points (4 tries, 4 conversions) to 22 points (3 tries, 2 conversions, 1 penalty) at Welisara yesterday.
At the short breather winners led 28/5. CH played a super brand of rugby in the initial half but ran out of ideas and lacked fitness in the later half. Sailors who defended most part of the initial half played a different brand of rugby in the second half to score 17 points but still fell short of the CH score of 28 points.
CH tries were scored by Samuel Oghebor, Rohitha Rajapakse, Avantha Lee and Prasad Madushanka. Rohitha Rajapakse converted all of them while Sailors tries were scored by Janith Laksara, Adeesha Weeratunge and Nirosh Perera. Chathura Seneviratne was on target with two of the try conversions. He also put over a solitary penalty. The referee was Kelum Sandaruwan.
