Colombo and Jaffna qualified to meet in the final of the National Super League (NSL) Limited-Over tournament with the completion of the round robin league matches yesterday.
Table toppers Colombo ended the league round with a facile 64-run win against Galle at the R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium, while Jaffna suffered a 16-run defeat under the DLS method at the hands of Dambulla at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Hambantota. However, despite the defeat Jaffna finished second in the table to make it to the final.
In a low scoring game Colombo managed only 171 and then bundled Galle out for 107. Left-arm spinners played a big role in the result, with Muditha Lakshan taking 4/19 for Galle and Dilum Sudeera 3/25 for Colombo.
Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga scored a half-century (62 off 35 balls, 5 fours, 5 sixes) and took two wickets for 25 in Dambulla’s win against Jaffna. In a match reduced to 46 overs Jaffna hit up 234-9 courtesy fifties from Hasitha Boyagoda (65 off 93 balls, 8 fours) and Lahiru Madushanka (51* off 44 balls, 3 fours, 4 sixes). Sri Lanka seamer Kasun Rajitha took four wickets. Dambulla with a revised target of 215 to chase off 42 overs made 230-8 in 40 with fifties from Nishan Maduahka (56 off 55 balls, 9 fours), Sonal Dinusha (56* off 79 balls, 2 fours)
and Hasaranga.
Colombo and Jaffna will meet in the final at Dambulla on Sunday.
