This year’s Colombo Marathon is set to be televised with the event set to be broadcast starting at 5.45 a.m. on 8 October on Rupavahini - Channel Eye.
Meanwhile, the registration process will take place on Saturday from 9.00 a.m.-4.00 p.m., while all the Full Marathon, Half Marathon and runners over 50 will be expected to produce their medical certificates before a medical panel prior to registration.
This year’s event will see over 8,000 runners from 47 countries taking part, and in its 17th year the Colombo Marathon will for the first time be introducing a route confined purely to the Colombo city limits. The special circular route will start and finish at the Racecourse Grounds in Colombo 7, and while it will only be utilised this time around for the 5 km and 10 km Fun Runs, event organiser LSR hope to expand it to the full marathon in the coming years.
As usual, the race will have several event categories catering to any and all interested runners: Full Marathon (42.195 km), Half Marathon (21.097 km), Veteran (50 and above) Full Marathon and Half Marathon, Fun Run (15 and above) 10 km and 5 km, and a School Fun Run 5 km for school kids.
As in previous years both the full and half marathons will be run down Negombo Road through Baseline Road with the finish lines in Hekitta and Thalahena respectively.
