Colombo Rowing Club emerged champions at the 78th ARAE-FEARA Regatta in India

The Colombo Rowing Club was one of the 13 clubs that participated this year at the 78th ARAE-FEARA regatta held in Kolkata, India from 5 to 11 January.

The Colombo Rowing Club crew consisted of nine athletes (six men and three women). This crew was one of the smallest that participated at the regatta in the recent past.

The Amateur Rowing Association of the East is a regatta founded by a few rowing clubs and has seen many international clubs taking part over the years, from India, Singapore, Pakistan, Philippines, Hong Kong, Thailand and Sri Lanka. 

With a small crew of nine athletes, Colombo Rowing Club emerged champions with the following results.

Women’s Category

Open ARAE Women’s Double Scull Gold Medal – Swarnamali Wijesinghe, Samaakhya Gajanayake

Open ARAE Women’s Pair Gold Medal – Ishika De Silva, Swarnamali Wijesinghe

Men’s Category

Open ARAE Men’s Scull Gold Medal – Arjun Wikramanayake

Open ARAE Men’s Double Scull Gold Medal – Hashen Hettigoda, Arjun Wikramanayake

Open ARAE Men’s Four (Willingdon trophy) Gold Medal – Ruven Weerasinghe, Shehan Muthugala, Sajin De Livera, Sandesh Bartlett 

Indoor Rowing Ergometer Championship

Open ARAE Men’s category Silver Medal – Ruven Weerasinghe (3.09.9).

The Hoogley Trophy for the Men’s Overall was won by the Colombo Rowing Club Crew with a tally of 28 points.
