The Colombo Rowing Club is set to host the 83rd edition of the prestigious Madras-Colombo Regatta on 3 August starting at 1.00 p.m.

This historic event, the oldest sporting competition between India and Sri Lanka, is the longest-running continuous regatta between the two countries, celebrating decades of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

The regatta will feature 12 thrilling events, including eight men’s and four women’s competitions. The coveted Deepam Trophy will be awarded to the overall Men’s category winners, while the Adyar Trophy will go to the Women’s champions. The highlight of the regatta, the Boat Race Trophy will be presented to the winners of the men’s senior fours.

In 2023, the Colombo Rowing Club won significantly the Men’s overall category and secured the Deepam Trophy. They also triumphed in The Boat Race Trophy with an impressive points tally of 34-16. The Madras Boat Club, however, claimed victory in the Women’s category. In 2023, The Regatta was hosted at the Madras Boat Club in Chennai.

This year promises to be an exciting and closely contested event. The Madras Boat Club and the Colombo Rowing Club participants will showcase their rowing prowess. The event will draw a large audience, including dignitaries, sports enthusiasts, and club members.

The Colombo Rowing Club is honoured to have the Indian CEO’s Forum, Lanka IOC, and Powertech Cement as the principal sponsors for the second consecutive year. The sponsorship and support from esteemed organisations enhance the regatta’s profile and provide a platform for promoting sportsmanship and fostering stronger ties between Sri Lanka and India.
