The highly anticipated Prima sponsored Sri Lanka Youth League Under-15 final saw Colombo South beating Kandy by 149 runs in a one sided final at the Thurstan College ground in front of an appreciative crowd last Friday. This was a record 16th year in tandem that Prima sponsored this junior cricket tournament. This year’s tournament once again delivered an exciting tournament for the youngsters where majority of the national players come through this tournament, which is considered as the foundation for their future.
Taking first lease of the wicket, Colombo South totalled 214 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. Their innings was well supported by Reshan Solomons who scored a brilliant 77 while Tharuka Saminjitha supported with a brisk unbeaten 32. Both Sanithu Gunathilake and Chanil Kodituwakku took three wickets a-piece.
Lads from central hills taking lease of the wicket never played with authority. They lost regular wickets and no one was able to build up a partnership in their time at the stumps. In the end, they were shot out for a low 65. Only Chanul Kodituwakku was able to play alone innings scoring 36. Chanithu Kankanamage bowled brilliantly taking 5 wickets while Methum Fernando supported with 3 wickets.
Reshan Solomons of Colombo South was the Best Batsman of the Tournament while Best Bowler of the Tournament was Dambulla spinner, Yumal Egodage.
Chanitha Kankanamage of Colombo South was Player of the Final. Dushanbe Udawela won the Player of the Tournament award.
