The Consulate General of Sri Lanka to Dubai and Northern Emirates hosted a dinner reception on 27 April 2024, felicitating Sri Lankan youth athletic team for winning 2 Silver and 3 Bronze medals at 4 x 400 Mixed Relay, 4 x 400 Men, 4 x400 Women, 4 x 100 Men and Triple Jump events at the recently concluded Asian U20 Athletics Championship in Dubai, held from 24 to 27 April 2024.
The event was graced by the presence of several sport enthusiasts, including representatives from various sports associations, Sri Lankan old boy associations in the UAE, and other individuals and organisations that supported the team.
During the reception, various appreciation tokens were handed over to the athletes as a gesture of recognition for their outstanding performance at the championship. These gifts were distributed with the support of numerous sponsors including Sri Lions, Olcott Schools OBA UAE, Sri Lanka Business Council of Dubai, Dessert Cubs Cricket Academy, SLCL, Classic Venture Tourism, St. Peter’s College OBU UAE, DS Senanayake College OBU UAE, Top Nock International, Danube, Thambapanni restaurant, numerous individuals, who came forward to encourage and motivate our athletes. The Global HEI Group has also expressed their commitment to award scholarships to selected athletes through their extensive network of institutions worldwide.
Consul General Alexi Gunasekera expressed his pride in seeing our athletes excel on an international platform. He also acknowledged the significant role played by various sports associations, Sri Lankan old boys associations, and individual supporters based in the UAE in making this possible.
Delectable cuisine provided by Thushani’s Restaurant, adding a touch of Sri Lankan flavour to the celebration.
