Consultant coach Mahela Jayawardene in
conversation with Pathum Nissanka
Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene who is on contract with Sri Lanka Cricket as their consultant coach for national teams will be part of the Sri Lanka team support staff for next month’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
Jayawardene was not part of the national team when they won the Asia Cup in the UAE as he was in England for The Hundred as head coach of Southern Braves. However, he was in contact with the Lankan team coaching staff during Sri Lanka’s success in the Asia Cup, and according to Chief Selector Pramodya Wickramasinghe, Jayawardene played a great part in changing Sri Lanka’s game plans during the Asia Cup in consultation with head coach Chris Silverwood.
