Countdown begins for the country’s longest endurance karting challenge

Sri Lanka Karting Circuit (SLKC) is ready to mark yet another red-letter day in the country’s motor sport history as it prepares to hold the first-ever eight-hour endurance karting challenge on 13 July.

The endurance karting challenge will test man and machine against the clock in an exciting and extremely challenging event on 13 July at SLKC Bandaragama. It is organised by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club, the local representative for FIA-CIK the world governing body of karting.

The event is a true endurance race where the teams compete for eight hours non-stop around the internationally acclaimed track managed by David Pieris Racing and Leisure Ltd. (DPRL), a member of David Pieris Group of Companies.

This includes mandatory pit stops and tire changes. After battling it out kart-to-kart for eight hours, the team which completes the most number of laps wins. Trophies and medals are on offer for the Winner, 1st runner up, 2nd runner up of the endurance challenge as well as the Fastest Driver of the Day. The eight-hour endurance karting challenge is open to teams comprising of national advanced kart racing drivers. Each team must be a minimum of three drivers and up to a maximum of six drivers.  

Entries are now open, and registration can be done by calling hotline 0770 555 577. The entry will be granted only after scrutiny, on a first come first served basis.  

Since its last year’s re-launching, SLKC has hosted fully-fledged endurance karting that follows international regulations from start to finish. With professionalism in mind, the race will be marshalled by a certified team.

In addition to the exciting endurance race, several attractions such as air rifle shooting range, a swimming pool (including kiddie’s pool) and a multi cuisine fusion restaurant will be available to participants and spectators on the day.

SLKC is open for rental operations providing the opportunity for karting enthusiasts to experience a professional world class motorsports facility for the first time in Sri Lanka. A fleet of several types of rental karts are available for different skill levels for anyone who wants to try out the sport or simply have a fun filled thrilling experience. SLKC provides safety gear such as helmets and gloves ensuring safety of the drivers. Karting is known as the entry level for future motorsport champions. 

Bambino karts and a separate track for children between the ages of 4-7 is available to drive under skilled supervision, while kids aged 8-12 years can enjoy the main track in Cadet Karts while youngsters aged 13 and above can enjoy karting and racing on main track with adults.
