Renowned cricket coach Nelson Mendis will launch his book titled ‘The Cricket Basics’ at Nalanda College Kularatne Hall on today at 5 p.m.
Legendary coach Mendis who started his coaching career in 1960 brings all his experience of 63 years of coaching into the book.
Several national cricketers have passed through his hands while he was a coach at Nalanda College, namely the country’s first Test captain Bandula Warnapura, former Sri Lanka captain Roshan Mahanama, Asanka Gurusinha, Kumar Dharmasena (currently of the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires), Lalith Kaluperuma, late Anura Ranasinghe, Jayantha Seneviratne, Hemantha Devapriya and many others.
Sri Lankan players Hashan Tillakaratne and Pubudu Dassanayake were also coached by Mendis when he had a short stint as coach of DS Senanayake College.
Mendis currently runs his own coaching school at CCC begun in 1998 on the invitation of two former stalwarts of the club Thilanga Sumathipala and Shammi Silva, the present president.
The keynote address will be delivered by Roshan Mahanama, former Sri Lanka captain and former ICC Match Referee.
The book is priced at Rs. 2000 and will be available at all leading book stores and at the CCC School of Cricket at Maitland Crescent.
