DIMO, the authorised General Distributor for Mercedes-Benz in Sri Lanka, has come forward to sponsor Speedruns, Sri Lanka’s first e-racing championship.

Speedruns is a digital racing platform where competitors have a very real simulation of driving the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3 car around the Suzuka International circuit and is the brainchild of the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC) and Mandarin Reid Advertising.

Digital racing is where competitors take part in a virtual race against each other, using specially designed ‘playseats’ to play a Grand Tourismo game on the PS4 platform. The playseats consist of a racing seat, together with pedals and a force feedback steering wheel to give the driver the real feel of a racecar.

Each playseat has its own TV screen which gives the driver, the view of his or her race from the driving seat. Drivers are also provided with headsets so they can hear the sound of their own cars and be fully immersed in the full virtual experience. Speedruns has 10 playseats so drivers compete against each other. A master screen will show the race in progress so spectators all have a view of the racing.
