D.S. Senanayake College, Giant Killers of the Dialog Schools League Under-19 tournament pulled off a narrow 13 points (2 tries, 1 penalty) to 10 points (2 tries) win over S’Thomas College in their school rugby encounter which concluded at Havelock Park yesterday.
At the short breather DS led 10/7.
Thomians drew first blood early in the 4th minute of the game through Dewshan Navarathna’s try. Yehan Bulathsinghalage was on target with the kick at goal to take an early 7/0 lead. DS playing cohesive rugby through their speedy through quarters dominated the next 20 minutes of play. They scored their first try of the evening in the 16th minute of the game through a Janidu Wijeratne try. DS once again hit back with their second try through Devmin Perera who had an outstanding outing. Once again the kick at goal was missed by reliable, Umagiliyage. Bulathsinghalge missed a 35 meter penalty in the 32nd minute of the game.
DS took the lead at the short breather at 10/7.
After the turn around Bulathsinghalage missed one penalty but the later one he was on target to equal score at 10 apiece.
Then it was the turn of Umagiliyage to miss out on a kickable penalty in the 53rd minute but later he too put over similar one 10 minutes later to take the lead 13/10 favouring D S. In the last minute of the game Bulathsinghalage missed a 30 meter kickable penalty which could have squared both outfits. Poor ball handling and decision making errors cost them the game for the lads from Mount Lavinia in the end. In the end DS ran out winners 13/10 keeping their 2nd spot hopes alive to qualify for the Super 4.
