Dambulla Women captained by national women’s cricketer Harshitha Samarawickrama continued their dominant form in the National Super League Women’s limited-over tournament when they won their second successive match beating Kandy Women by five wickets at Colts grounds yesterday.

Half-centuries from Hansima Karunaratne (70 off 82 balls, 12 fours, 1 six) and skipper Kaveesha Dilhari (61 off 69 balls, 7 fours) saw Kandy Women end up with a total of 237-7. Dambulla made short work of that target with Sandali Weerasinghe (62 off 112 balls, 9 fours) and Imalka Mendis (61 off 76 balls, 9 fours, 1 six) wiping out 130 runs in an opening partnership and Samarawickrama finishing off the match in style with an undefeated 45 off 55 balls (3 fours).

Colombo Women moved to second place in the standings with an eight-wicket thrashing of Galle Women at the P. Sara Oval. Right-arm leg-spinner Tharushi Thathsarani (4/34) and the left-arm seam of national cricketer Tharika Sewwandi (3/35) proved the undoing of Galle Women who were put out for 132. Colombo Women raced to the target scoring 133-2 in 29.5 overs with openers Nethmi Poorna (55 off 78 balls, 8 fours) and Prasadani Weerakkody (34) laying the foundation with a stand of 86. – (ST)
