Shevon Daniel’s career best innings of 155 coupled with fifties from Pawan Pathiraja, skipper Raveen de Silva and Vinuja Ranpul has placed Sri Lanka in a position to win the two-match Under-19 Youth test series against England at the County ground in Derby.
At the end of the penultimate day of the second four-day Youth test Sri Lanka were 480-8 in reply to England’s 387 – a lead of 99 runs going into the fourth and final day.
England were made to toil the entire third day by Daniel who carried his overnight score of 92 to 155 off 237 balls inclusive of 25 fours and a six.
With Pawan Pathiraja (55 off 155 balls, 9 fours) Daniel stitched together a third wicket stand of 160. Following the dismissals of Pathiraja, Daniel, Ranuda Somarathne (37) and Lahiru Dawatage (0) for the addition of 70 runs, Raveen de Silva and Ranpul piled on further frustration on England as they indulged in a partnership of 110 for the seventh wicket. Ranpul hit seven fours and two sixes in his innings of 65 off 108 balls, while De Silva remained undefeated at the close on 65 scored off 177 balls with seven fours and one six.
Sri Lanka led the two-match series 1-0 having won the first test by three wickets.
