Daraz’s Rakhil South Asian representative torchbearer for 19th Asian Games Hangzhou

Daraz Group, South Asia’s leading e-commerce platform in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, has announced that Chief Corporate Affairs Officer (CCAO) and Daraz Sri Lanka Former Managing Director Rakhil Fernando was chosen as the South Asian representative torchbearer for the highly anticipated 19th Asian Games Hangzhou.

The Asian Games, recognised as the world’s second-largest multi-sport event, brings together athletes from across Asia to compete in a wide range of sporting disciplines. The torch relay, a symbol of unity, strength, and the pursuit of excellence marks the official start of the Games and honours outstanding individuals who embody the spirit of athleticism.

Rakhil Fernando, an entrepreneur and a role model for many, has made significant contributions to the South Asian community, specifically Sri Lanka. Rakhil spearheaded numerous initiatives including Daraz Donates, one of the first multi-charity donation platforms in the country. Rakhil is also an Ambassador for Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organisation that helps people in local communities and worldwide build or improve a place they can call home.

Speaking about this prestigious honour, Fernando expressed his gratitude and excitement, saying: “I am deeply honoured to represent South Asians at the 19th Asian Games. It is a tremendous privilege to carry the torch and represent the spirit and aspirations of South Asians. I believe this opportunity will not only showcase the talent and potential of our region but also represent Daraz’s mission to uplift our communities through the power of e-commerce.”
