Issued charge sheet for appearing in two matches in one day

All-rounder Dasun Shanaka, the former Sri Lanka white ball Captain has fallen into hot waters with Sri Lanka Cricket after playing in two matches in one day at different venues.

Shanaka is alleged to have played for SSC in their Major Club 3-day match against Moors SC at the P Sara Oval on the first two days and then on the third day thumped 123 off 87 balls before taking flight to Dubai where several hours later he struck 34 off 12 balls for Dubai Capitals in an International League T20 match.

Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva said, “Dasun Shanaka has played a club match and had got hit on his leg and he had said that he was not fit enough to play the rest of the game. So, the match referee had given SSC a substitute. On the same day Dasun apparently went to Dubai and played a match there. He has played two games in one day.” “We are having an inquiry on that. We have given him a charge sheet today where he has to respond within 2-3 days. You can’t play two games in one day. The NOC we gave him to play league cricket in Dubai was removed after he came back to the country. He needs to get the approval from SLC to go back again after he was asked to come back by SSC. He needs to at least inform the authorities of all SSC for whom he was playing. He took off midway during the SSC match. SSC too will have an inquiry on that.”

“If Shanaka pleads guilty, we can straight away take a decision but if he doesn’t prove that he is guilty then we will have to take a decision to hold an inquiry.” – [ST]
