Sri Lanka’s white ball batting all-rounder Dasun Shanaka is tipped to take over the captaincy from Kusal Perera for the upcoming series against India starting on 13 July.

The Daily FT reliably learns that Shanaka has been made the captain of the two white ball teams (ODI and T20I) till the ICC T20 World Cup in October this year.

Shanaka (29) was one of the few successes of Sri Lanka’s calamitous tour of England recently scoring 47 and 48 in the last two ODIs. The Sri Lanka team was captained by Kusal Perera and lost the T20I series 0-3 and the ODI series 0-2 to England.

Shanaka is renowned for captaining a virtual second-string Sri Lanka side to a 3-0 clean sweep of Pakistan in a T20I series in October 2019 when the majority of the senior players pulled out due to security concerns. (ST)
