Debutant 3DH International crowned MCA Premier League 2023 champs

• Miranga Wickramage and Lohan De Soysa shine for winners against MAS Intimates Unichela

 

A mesmerising spell of off-spin bowling by Miranga Wickramage and a stylish half century by opener, Lohan De Soysa steered, 3DH International “A” to a resounding 08 wickets win on the DLS Method, over MAS Intimates Unichela in the MCA Premier League 2023 Final concluded on Tuesday, 06th June at the MCA Grounds.

The final was constantly interrupted by rain; the match commenced at 09.45 am playing 50-overs, but it had to be reduced to 44 overs a side at the first interruption; and was  further reduced to 38 overs a side after the 02nd rain halt.

MAS Unichela, sent into bat were made to labour for their runs by the 3DH spin trio of Angelo Daniel (9/1/35/2), Miranga Wickramage (9/1/25/5), and Sachindu Colombage (9/2/27/2)

MAS Unichela’s moderate total of 150 runs made in 40.3 overs could have been much smaller if not for the 02 fighting batting performances by No. 3 batsman, Ramitha Gunaratne (41 in 67 balls, inclusive of a six and 05 fours) and No. 10 batsman Kalana Sandeep (28 not out in 31 balls, inclusive of a six and 02 fours.)

3DH International, given a revised target of 136 runs in 38 overs due to the 2nd rain interruption, reached their target comfortably in 23.1 overs as their opener, Kosala Silva (29 in 49 balls, inclusive of a six and 02 fours) and Lohan de Soyza (69 in 64 balls, inclusive of 04 sixes and 04 fours) setting the platform with a 86 runs stand in 98 balls.

Match Referee, Nalliah Devarajan’s Man of the Match was Miranga Wickramage from 3DH International “A”

The other 03 special awards, based on performances up to the Semi –Finals went to Angelo Daniel from 3DH International  (Best bowler/06 matches, 268  balls, 129 runs, 18 wickets Avg. 7.17, economy 2.89) ; Tharindu Amarasinghe from MAS Unichela (best batsman/ 03 innings, 199 runs, inclusive of 01 half century, average 66.3, strike rate 99.5); and Mithum Jayawickrama from Singer Sri Lanka “A” (11 wickets for 112 runs and 110 runs in 05 innings)

Awards were given away by the MCA Officials, Nalin Wickramasinghe (President), Mahesh de Alwis (Senior Vice President) and Ajith Siyambalapitiya (Executive Committee Member)
