Debutants, Maliban Biscuits, led by Tharindu Siriwardena emerged as the new “league” winner in the 31st Singer – MCA Super Premier League 2024.
The Super League is conducted in 03 stages, namely, the league, the knock-out and the T+20; the league round robin, contested by 07 teams, playing a total of 21 matches, commenced on 4 October and was concluded on 22 November 2024.
Maliban Biscuits playing their last match in their quota of matches, on 22 October, at the Colts Grounds, registered their 05th win in 06 outings, beating BBK Partnership by 91 runs, in the DLS method; Maliban Biscuits, batting first cracked 301 runs for the loss of 08 wickets and BBK Partnership was 154 for 07 in 31.3 overs when rain abandoned play.
Maliban Biscuits, thus with 05 wins and 01 defeat, headed the leader board to claim the prestigious “League” title. On Thursday, 21 November at Bloomfield, the match between Hayleys and Fairfirst Insurance was abandoned, due to rain; Fairfirst batting first scored 167 runs in 29.5 overs and Hayleys was 95 for 04 in 17.1 overs when the rains came down.
The other match played on Friday, 22 November at Mattegoda between CDB Finance and HNB, too was abandoned due to rain; the match got off to a late start, due to wet ground conditions, reduced to 27 overs a side; but as CDB was 108 for 08 in 21 overs, rain put an end to the proceedings.
Coming up next is the knock-out segment, with the 04 top teams in the league stage leader board; in the semi-finals will be played between League No.01 vs. League No. 04 and League No. 02 vs. League No. 03; followed by the T+20 with 06 teams playing in 02 groups on a league format.
