Tarindra Kaluperuma from Stafford Motor Co. making his debut at a MCA Snooker Tournament scored an impressive tow frames to one win over Sandun Wijeratne from Hayleys Group, in the Final of the MCA Open Snooker Championship 2019, concluded at the MCA Billiards & Snooker Room on Friday, 24 May.
Kaluperuma, who went down fighting in the first frame (36/45) , made a determined effort in the second frame and equalised (43/20) ; Wijeratne now somewhat rattled by Kaluperuma’s cool and calculated play, lost the third and final frame without a fight and conceded the match at 33/64.
The tournament was participated in by 12 players pooled into four groups of three; at the completion of the round-robin stage, former winner, Milinda Mallikarachchi (Group “A”), Nadun Wijeratne (Group “B”), Tarindra Kaluperuma (Group “C”) and former winner, Chaminda Madanayake (Group “D”) advanced to Semi-Finals, as group winners.
In the semi-finals, Sandun Wijeratne beat Milinda Mallikarachchi (81/23, 25/57 and 56/55); in the other semi-final, Tarindra Kaluperuma beat Chaminda Madanayake (91/12 and 60/46).
The tournament was conducted by the MCA Other Sports Committee, headed by Vice President Ujith Buddhima.
The awards presentation took place after the final, which was participated in by MCA officials, Roshan Iddamalgoda (President), Mahesh de Alwis (General Secretary), Duminda Pinto (Ex-Co Member) and Sajith Atapattu (Member Bar Pavilion Committee).
The tournament which contained 15 matches including the final was refereed by MCA, B&S, Marker and M.C. Martis.
